Soaring Report – Saturday, August 5, 2023

Today we started our flight operations with six Civil Air Patrol – Cadet Glider Orientation flights. Those flights were followed by eleven club flights.

The CAP flights started later than normal because of on-and-off low clouds. We started the CAP flights at 10:00am and didn’t finish until almost 2:30pm. The skies never cleared entirely, but the ceiling increased to 4,600′ AGL, so we had more room to tow. Bud S. started the club flights with a quick pattern flight in the L-23. We pulled out the single seat Grob G-102 that the club is considering purchasing. Steve R. took the first flight in the Grob. Steve found it to be a nice flying ship with no bad tendencies. Bud and David L. followed Steve’s flight. Matt R. and Steve did three flights in the L-23 to check Matt out for flying from the back seat. Bob A. then took the Grob up, and he reports that he enjoyed flying it a lot. Steve flew a lesson with Will M., and then Steve took Will’s mother, Sarah, for her first glider flight. Matt flew the hangar fight to end the day. Bob D. did the CAP towing and Frank towed the club flights.

It was another hot and humid day. The dew point was in the 70’s, so it was nice to have the clouds providing intermittent relief from the full sun.
