Hi, all:
.
The Omaha Soaring Club flew Tuesday, May 13th, with five gliders and six pilots completing nine flights. We don’t fly on many Tuesdays, but the soaring forecast indicated it’d be a good day, so we flew.  With the winds blowing down the runway from the southwest, we were again forced to operate from the north end of the runway.  That is always a lot of extra work, and we didn’t finish putting everything away until 8:30PM.
.
Today’s flights:
.
– Up first was Sean S. flying his Jonkers JS3. Sean served as the ‘sniffer’, looking to see if any thermals were popping. He found some lift over a nearby lake and flew for about 25 minutes.
– Steve R. flew two flights in the newest 1-26B, which was recently purchased by several club members. That aircraft had its Annual Inspection yesterday morning, and Steve’s was its first flight in 16 years!
– Jeff F. flew a flight in his 1-26B (S/N 263) and then flew the new 1-26B (S/N 379).
– Bob D. flew his Russia and was up for 30+ minutes working the lift, which again got better as the day got later.
– Ryan K. had an initial flight in the L23 and was deeply frustrated that he found no lift. However, he rallied his faith in the ‘Gods of Lift’ and took a second flight. He achieved an altitude of 7,900’ MSL and a 62 minute flight duration, utterly destroying the criteria for earning a soaring ‘B’ Badge. Sweet Vindication!
– Bud S. flew the L23 for its hangar flight and found nary an ounce of lift. However, he did have a nice view of a spring sunset from the BTA airspace.

Frank towed for us today.

Thanks everyone!
