Hello, all:

We flew today because the soaring forecast indicated that it could be a decent day for thermals to form.  NOPE!  Smoke from Canadian wildfires filled the sky, keeping temperatures down, and keeping thermals from forming.  Visibility was not good, so we called it a day after four flights:

  • Steve R. flew a paid ride.
  • Eric H. flew a paid ride.
  • Dave L. flew a solo in the L23.
  • Bud S. flew a solo in the L23.
Frank towed for us.
Since it wasn’t a good day to fly, we made an attempt to create a ‘step’ at the north end of the clubhouse deck.  Jeff F. attached a backer-board to the underside edge of the deck, and then Tom, Will, and Jeff hauled crushed rock over to build up a gently sloped ‘step’.  This makes stepping down off the deck or stepping up onto the deck less of a challenge.  Crushed rock was also used to fill the deep hole along the hangars where we walk when taking the L23 to and from its hangar.
