Hello, all:

Today was a good day for student flights.  The skies were not generating any thermals, so sled rides, which are perfect for flight lessons, were the order of the day.  Today’s flights:

  • Student pilot Sean F. flew one flight lesson with Steve R.
  • Student pilot Trevor F. flew one flight lesson with Steve.
  • New club member Adam P. flew three flight lessons with Steve.  Adam is a certificated power pilot working on his glider rating.
  • Steve flew two 3,000′ paid rides.
  • Liam G. flew his final flight with our club.  He’s been transferred to AZ.  He was an active club member, and he’ll be missed.  Good luck with your new assignment!
  • Sean S. flew two flights in his high-performance Jonkers JS-3.  He was towed aloft once and then did a self-launch.  His second flight was the longest flight of the day, lasting just short of an hour.
  • Student pilot Jose C. flew two flight lessons with Steve.
  • Bud S. flew a sled ride in the L-23.
  • Tom S. flew a sled ride in the L-23, which was the hangar flight for the day.

One thing to note is that the Omaha Soaring Club doesn’t charge for ground or flight instruction.  Powered flight instructors charge students for their time and some glider instructors charge students for their time, too.  Our instructors do not charge for their time, which is a significant savings to our student pilots.

Frank did the towing today.  Since 2020, Frank has safely towed over four thousand glider flights.  We appreciate the skill and care Frank brings to this specialized task.
